Dine on a Dime: Slow Cooker Root Beer Barbecue

The holidays are over. Who's tired of turkey and ham and all the pies that come with the holiday season? Us too!

Here's an easy recipe for BBQ sandwiches to help ease you into regular food again.  

Ingredients

  • 4 large boneless pork chops (you can also use boneless chicken breasts)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1½ cups root beer (you can use cola or cherry-flavored cola, but do not use diet soda)
  • 1½ cups barbecue sauce

Directions

  1. Spray the insert of the slow cooker with nonstick spray and place meat inside.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together garlic powder, onion powder, soda and barbecue sauce.
  3. Pour over the chicken.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours.
  5. Shred the meat.
  6. Mix in the juices to keep it moist.
  7. Serve over rice or on hamburger buns or rolls.
