We’re not headquartered halfway across the country. We lend here, work here, and invest right here in our communities.

We support our communities

People helping people is in our DNA

Rio Grande has a strong commitment to the communities where our members live, work and play, and this has been who we are since 1953. Through the support of non-profit organizations, employee involvement, our Make the Change program, educational workshops, and financial literacy efforts in the schools, Rio Grande continually brings immeasurable value to our communities, positively affecting thousands of lives.

We offer programs other banks don’t

We believe in going above and beyond great banking solutions to offer things you won’t find at other banks, like our combined Debit and Credit Card rewards, our Make the Change program, our youth programs that help kids learn that saving money can be fun, or a multitude of services designed to help your financial dreams come true.

We are low income designated

RGCU has received its Low Income Designation (LID) from the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). The designation provides the credit union access to additional resources to reach underserved and low-income communities.

We want to help you learn

As a not-for-profit financial cooperative, we know it’s part of our responsibility to help educate our community. We offer seminars throughout the year on a number of financial topics for small business owners, individuals, teens, and those interested in wealth management or mortgages services.

We Are CDFI Certified

CDFI (Community Development Financial Institutions ) certification is a reflection of our mission of promoting community development and providing technical support services in conjunction with affordable loans to members and member businesses. CDFI certification allows RGCU to better serve low and moderate-income consumers and promote financial inclusion in our area. The benefits are numerous, including access to financial grants from the US Treasury's CDFI Fund, partnership opportunities with community organizations, and the ability to raise funds from foundations, corporations and state and local governments. We're proud to be a part of the 800+ certified CDFIs currently in the US.

RGCU is a Minority Depository Institution (MDI)

That means RGCU is a federal insured depository institution where (1) 51 percent of our membership are minority individuals; (2) a majority of the board of directors is minority; and (3) the community that we serve is predominantly minority.

We are your local bank for business

Across this community, many businesses count on us. Many are the businesses you frequent day-to-day.

We can offer the technology of the big guys without the headache. Banking should be easy. That’s why we’ve got all the tools you’ll find at our big competitors—like a robust online banking system and a mobile app with person-to-person payments, mobile check deposit and so much more—minus the things that stress you out. (Like excessive fees?)

About us

Rio Grande Credit Union is a full-service financial institution offering savings, lending, checking and payment solutions.

As a credit union, Rio Grande is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative dedicated to improving its members’ lives and helping people's dreams come true. Credit unions are the only democratically-controlled financial institutions in the U.S. Members elect a volunteer board of directors to oversee the credit union. In contrast, banks are for-profit entities, run by paid board directors, with all profits benefitting bank shareholders.

Because Rio Grande isn't focused on making a profit, we’re able to offer lower rates on loans and credit cards, as well as higher earnings on savings — giving back more to members.

Additionally, credit unions educate members about money matters. We provide resources, such as in-branch financial advisors, online and print newsletters, educational materials, seminars and community involvement, to help members and nonmembers alike make informed financial decisions.

Our purpose is to help members' dreams come true by providing ways to help them save and manage their finances. It’s part of our DNA of “people helping people."

The Credit Union Difference

When you look at all the financial products and services you'll find at Rio Grande Credit Union, there may not seem to be much difference between RGCU and banks. However, there are some critical factors that set us apart.

RGCU is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative dedicated to improving members' lives and helping them make their financial dreams come true. Credit unions are the only democratically-controlled financial institutions in the United States. You and other members elect a volunteer board of directors to oversee the credit union. The president/CEO reports to this board. Bank directors, however, are paid and are legally bound to make decisions that benefit stockholders. Banks make money for stockholders, not for customers.

Because credit unions aren't focused on making a profit, we're able to offer lower rates on loans and higher earnings on savings. Interest rates on credit cards and auto loans average lower than bank rates. Money market, savings and interest checking accounts provide higher rates—giving back more to members.

Additionally, we unions educate members about money matters. We provide resources such as free financial coaching, newsletters, educational brochures and seminars to help you make informed financial decisions. In short, you and other members are the focus of credit unions.
